Partick Thistle Football Club

 Ian McCall on Tonight's Game

Tuesday 13th July 2010

Although Thistle went down to a 2-1 defeat at Dumbarton this evening it was a far from despondent Ian McCall that www.ptfc.co.uk caught up with at the end of a game that the manager watched from the stand while assistant Ian Maxwell took control from the dug out.

“That was a more than useful exercise for us and will have helped with the players’ fitness. Results pre-season don’t mean a great deal though you want to get into the habit of winning games as quickly as possible so in that respect we are disappointed to have lost the match. We did, however, lose to two excellent goals, particularly the second. Dumbarton will be hard pushed to score two better goals all season.”

“At times tonight I thought that we played some excellent football and in addition to the goal that we scored we created five or six good chances. On Saturday against Queen’s Park we took some of those type of chances but tonight we didn’t. We most learn to take our chances when they come.”

“We fielded a relatively young side tonight and it was good again to see some of the younger players get some game time. We are at present missing some important players and what tonight maybe showed is that we could do with added a couple of players to the squad and that is hopefully something that we will be able to do.”

“A couple of players picked up knocks tonight and we may well rest them on Saturday when we play a Celtic side at Lennoxtown. Simon Donnelly felt a tightness in his hamstring while Willie Kinniburgh, who I thought did well tonight, went over on his ankle towards the end of the game. With a small squad we can’t afford to pick up too many injuries and to some extent we will need to nurse the players through pre-season."
