Coming Back Early
Friday 11th June 2010
Today the football spotlight is shining squarely on South Africa with the start of the 2010, and 19th, World Cup Finals. The start of our own domestic season in contrast seems a million years away. In reality though it isn’t that far away with Pre-Season training due to start in earnest in just a little over two weeks time, on June 30th.
Long gone are the days where the early stages of pre-season training would be spent working off the extra pounds worth of summer excesses. Today’s players are far more professional in their approach to fitness than their predecessors from years gone by ever were.
Even in acknowledging that fact the approach of several players in the current Thistle squad during the course of the off season has been highly commendable. As manager Ian McCall explained to www.ptfc.co.uk
“We’ve had to open the Club up during the summer such as been the demand from players to make use of the facilities here. Not every player is coming in every day by any means but the desire shown by the players, voluntarily I may add, to be in tip top condition ahead of pre-season training from a manager’s perspective is hugely pleasing. There’s going to be a few in next week and we’ll get some work done.”
“Physio Kenny Crichton will be in and he will work closely with the likes of Alan Archibald and Liam Buchanan. While Alan will miss the start of the season we are looking forward to seeing Liam start the season with the benefit of a good, solid pre-season behind him. His desire to start the season in the peak of condition is reflected in his work ethic during the summer and hopefully we will all reap the benefits of that when the season gets under way.”
