 Dunfermline - After Match Reaction

Saturday 25th September 2010

There is a depressing familiarity to the after match atmosphere at Thistle games at the moment. The sense of disappointment is almost overwhelming.

The pain of defeat was clearly etched on manager Ian McCall’s face when he spoke to www.ptfc.co.uk a short time after the full-time whistle.

“I think that we’ve forgotten how to win a game. You look at key moments in this game and in the second half we’ve had two great shots fly straight at the keeper while in the first half, Dunfermline have had a great shot that has ended up in the back of the net. That’s the way things tend to go far you when you are down at the bottom of the league. It’s not pleasant being at the foot of the league but I’m more interested in how the league table will look in March than how it looks right now.”

“Today there seemed to be a lack of belief and it is my job to try and install at that belief and I will be working my socks off to do that. It’s difficult though as there isn’t a great deal of options open to me. First half today I didn’t think there was much between the teams. David Rowson and Liam Buchanan have had good chances while the score was at 0-0 and Iain Flannigan has a chance at the edge of the box just before half-time. If it is on target it goes in but he put it over the bar. In training that kind of chance goes in and that gets me back to that lack of belief, a lack of character and fight, that we have at the moment. There seems to be a real reluctance to pull the trigger when we get to the edge of the box. To use the old saying, you won’t win the lottery unless you buy a ticket.”

“We set the team up today both to have a right go at Dunfermline and also to try and contain them. The first goal that we lost, as good as the finish was, was a really poor goal from our point of view to lose. There was more than one player that was guilty of poor decision making in the lead up to that goal.”

“Look, Dunfermline are a good side and they will be right up there this season and today’s result isn’t the result that has caused the damage this season.”
