Queen of the South - After Match Reaction

Saturday 18th September 2010

Bewildering is the only was to describe the events at Palmerston Park this afternoon. Those not at the game may find it hard to believe but it would have been harsh on Thistle had they emerged from this game with just a point. You can imagine, therefore, how it felt when the home side snatched a scarcely deserved winner with just a few minutes remaining.

www.ptfc.co.uk caught up with the Thistle manager not long after the full-time whistle and he, like just about everyone else, couldn’t believe that we came away from the game with nothing.

“For about 75 minutes we were in total control of that match and had the players gone in at full-time after a 1-1 draw they would have been gutted to have lost the game. There is a sense of disbelief then that we have come out of it with nothing. That’s what tends to happen though when you are down at the bottom of the league. Their equaliser was a good goal from the Queen of the South’s point of view, though a terrible one from our perspective.  Even then Allan Johnston could have that shot ten times and not scored nine of those times.”

“ The winning goal was another good strike but it’s come about because Paul Cairney has given away possession of the ball when had he passed the ball into the space available would have in all probability have meant a point, which before the game we would have thought of as a good result. ”

“I can’t though be too critical of the players. Each and every one of them gave everything that they had. As did the fans who gave us such great support. I think the players got a lift from that ehich in turn gave the players even more of a lift.”

“ In the first half I thought that we simply passed the ball past Queen of the South and we fully merited our lead at the break. Indeed it could well have been 2-0 as it was definite penalty when Liam Buchanan went down in the box.”
