Queen of the South versus Partick Thistle - Live Text Updates

Saturday 18th September 2010

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH 2, PARTICK THISTLE 1

FULL-TIME

87 mins: GOAL QUEENS. How cruel can football be? Rocco Quinn's drive from 20 yards flies past Halliwell and into the net.

85 mins: Iain Flannigan tests David Hutton with a low shot from right on the 18 yard line.

82 mins: Good tackle from Paton on Reid but Queens have a corner which comes to nothing.

80 mins: It's Thistle's first corner of the game. On the left. Flannigan's corner is a good one but it is headed clear as far as Bryan Hodge who volleys wide.

77 mins: McNamara is booked as Queens have a free kick in a dangerous position at the corner of the box. It's headed clear but only as far as Quinn who from the edge of the box shoots high over the bar.

75 mins: GOAL QUEENS. That came out of the blue. A cross from the right is fired into the net by Allan Johnston. An excellent finish but harsh on Thistle who had been looking comfortable.

62 mins: Kris Doolan gets a bit of room inside the Queens box but Hutton gets down to save his low shot.

61 mins: Queens corner on the right. It's cleared but Queens keep the pressure on until Halliwell confidently takes a cross into the box.

58 mins: Ironic cheers as Thistle are given a free kick.

56 mins: You can't praise highly enough the Thistle fans who are giving the team some amazing support right now.

52 mins: Paul Cairney charges out from midfield but is furious when his run is halted by the referee who spots a foul.

Crowd: 2,013

46 mins: Paul Paton is booked after a clash with McKenna who is also booked.

Back under way at Palmerston.

There has been much to be pleased about in Thistle's first half performance and while Queens have forced things a bit more since falling behind Thistle have been comfortable and deserve their lead. Still much football to be played.

HALF-TIME

45 mins+: Into first half injury time.

44 mins: Queens win the game's first corner. Lilley gets his head to it but it drifts harmlessly out of play.

39 mins: Not the biggest ever Thistle support but they are making themselves heard at the moment.

38 mins: Paul Burns gets his head to a free kick wide on the left but his header is too close to Halliwell who makes an easy save.

33 mins: GOAL THISTLE. Iain Flannigan collects a mis directed pass and from 20 yards out shoots low into the net.

30 mins: There are no takers for Hodge's cut back as Thistle continue to move the ball about the pitch well.

25 mins: Thistle break quickly and after being set up by Kris Doolan, Liam Buchanan sees his shot blocked by a home defender.

24 mins: A Paul Paton shot from a few yards outside the box goes over the bar.

18 mins: And it nearly gets worse as the ball bounces across the Thistle box but Holmes can't get to the ball.

17 mins: Liam Buchanan looks to be fouled inside the box for a clear penalty but the referee after looking across to his assistant doesn't point to the spot and Buchanan is booked. Not a good few minutes for Thistle.

15 mins: Alan Archibald's comeback lasts just 15 minutes. After receiving treatment from physio Crichton he is replaced by Paul Cairney.

13 mins: Paul Paton is a little, ahem, firm with his header back to Halliwell but the Thistle keeper grabs hold of it and all is well.

12 mins: First chance of the game and it is for Thistle. Iain Flannigan crosses from the right and Kris Doolan gets on the end of it but his first time shot is too high.

8 mins: Paddy Boyle feels that he should have earned Thistle a penalty but his pleas fall on deaf ears.

7 mins: Play pretty much confinded to midfield so far but Thistle do look to have settled fairly well.

0 mins: Thistle will kick off and will shoot towards the home fans in the first half.

PRE-MATCH NEWS: Alan Archibald makes his return in the centre of the Thistle defence after a lengthy period out injured. Willie Kinniburgh returns too after having missed the last few weeks. Elsewhere there are places in the starting eleven for Iain Flannigan and Bryan Hodge while Liam Buchanan will be looking to carry his goal scoring form for the reserves midweek into this match.
