Partick Thistle Football Club

Youth Round Up - Sunday September 26th

Tuesday 28th September 2010

Our under 19 side were in action in two fixtures over the course of the weekend.

First up was a friendly with Rangers at Murray Park on Friday evening with the Jags, who also included Paul Cairney in their line-up, giving a good account of themselves even though they lost 2-1. The Thistle goal being scored by Kieran Burns after he had been set up by Shaun Fraser.

Team: Scully (Shepherd 46mins), McGeough, Stevenson, Lochead, Pearce (Baxter 46mins); Cairney, Bannigan, Campbell, Burns, Sweeney (Burbridge 59mins), Fraser.

On Sunday the under 19s were in league action against Stirling Albion at the Forthbank Astro pitch and went down to a 4-2 defeat.

With one eye on the following day’s reserve game against Queen’s Park, Thistle fielded a young inexperienced side for this match with a number of trialists included in the side.

The start that Thistle made to this match could scarcely have been worse. The referee awarding Stirling a controversial penalty for handball after the ball had been thrashed at a Thistle defender who made not attempt to play the ball with his hands. The penalty was duly converted to give Stirling the lead.

Thistle though were level after 16 minutes when Mark Burbridge’s low drive from a right angle beat the Stirling keeper at his near post.

Stirling restored their lead in the 46th minute with a shot that went in off the post but Thistle came back once more and equalised for a second time two minutes later with a goal from Ryan Clougherty.

Two further Stirling goals in 55 and 67 minutes gave the home side a 4-2 win and their fifth successive victory.

Our under 17 side were also in action against Stirling Albion on Sunday bit they feared little better, going down by three goals to one.

Both our under 15 and under 13 sides, however, enjoyed better fortune at the weekend. The under 13s enjoyed a narrow win over Ross County while the under 15s hit the goal trail, scoring eight times in their win over East Fife.
