Partick Thistle Football Club

 Tommy Stewart

Tommy Stewart

Tommy first arrived at Firhill in March last season in what was essentially an extended trial period. Having not played since the end of the season in Ireland the previous November it naturally took Tommy a little time to gain something approaching full match fitness. He made his Thistle debut as a substitute against Falkirk at Firhill on April 9th and made his first start a few weeks later against Morton.

He opened his scoring account for Thistle against Dundee at Dens Park and was also on target against Raith Rovers as Thistle ended the season with an impressive 3-0 win over Raith Rovers as Tommy finished the season with two goals from three starts, five appearances overall.

Tommy started his career as a trainee with Wolverhampton Wanderers when Jackie McNamara was also on the playing staff at Molineux. During his time at Wolves, Tommy appeared in the Wolves youth team that reached the semi-final of the 2005 FA Youth Cup but was unable to make the breakthrough into the first team.

After leaving Wolves, Tommy signed for Linfield where he part of the squad that won two Irish Premier League titles and two Irish Cups.

His next move took him Derry City where he again enjoyed success, adding a League of Ireland Cup Winners medal to his collection and also played in the Europa League with Derry.

Tommy left Derry City when they went into administration with his next port of call Carolina Railhawks in the USA. However, a lack of a work visa meant a return to Ireland when he joined Shamrock Rovers, who were his last club prior to his arrival at Firhill last season.  Further honours were won during his time with Shamrock, Rovers winning the League of Ireland title in 2010 which gained them entry to the Europa League where a goal from Stewart earned them victory over Bnei Yehuda and a tie with Juventus.

A schoolboy international with Northern Ireland, Tommy has also been capped 19 times at under 21 level for Northern Ireland, scoring four times, and also twice at under 23 level.
