Seven Wealth Player of the Month for September

September has been a month light on games by usual Championship standards with only three matches played but there’s still been plenty to talk about as the Jags added four points to their league tally and matched a 115-year-old record.

Things started with a home win over Ayr United before a midweek trip to face Stenhousemuir brought about a first defeat of the Championship campaign.

The month ended back in Maryhill as Mark Wilson’s men drew 0-0 with Raith Rovers; a result which took the team to a joint-club record 23 home league games unbeaten.

Now, with a six-game October slate on the horizon, it’s time to pick the Seven Wealth Player of the Month for September!

Cale Loughrey

Thistle’s Canadian central defender has been an ever-present in the Championship and has played more minutes across all competitions than any of his teammates, contributing to six clean sheets in 11 starts. He produced one of his best performances as a Jag so far when Raith Rovers were in town last weekend, winning the ball back 23 times and completing 85% of his passes.

Ben McPherson

After returning from injury in August, Ben McPherson is now fully back up to speed and performing well on the right-hand side of the Jags’ backline. He started all three games this month and received international recognition for his recent displays, getting called up to the Scotland Under 21s squad for upcoming games against Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.

Paddy Reading

Thistle’s Mr. Consistent has been his usual reliable self during September, playing every minute of the last three games taking him to 10 consecutive 90-minute performances. The left-back’s hard-working nature was epitomised in a one-on-one battle with Ross Taylor in the second half against Ayr United when the winger jinked one way then the other repeatedly trying to shake Reading off but found no way through as Paddy slid in to put the ball out for a corner.

Ben Dempsey

English midfielder Ben Dempsey made his club debut during August at Easter Road and has built on that nicely this month. He helped the team see out the 1-0 win over former club Ayr United and then impressed on his full debut against Raith Rovers as he played 75 minutes and won the ball back 7 times in the opposition half.
